Website Privacy
This notice covers tanglenine.com, operated by Umbra Enterprises, LLC. No Tangle account is required to play. The Apple app has its own privacy notice.
Progress on Your Device
Your puzzle placements, results, timers, settings and private ranking/challenge keys are stored in your browser. They do not automatically sync to another browser or device. Clearing browser data can erase progress and the keys needed to remove your online scores. Starting a future Daily on its free date may create a signed access receipt on your device; this records access to that puzzle, not a paid membership.
Website Requests and Usage Counts
Cloudflare hosts the site and game services and processes network information such as IP addresses. The game services use short-lived network hashes and counters to limit abuse.
We use Umami for cookie-free aggregate usage counts: page views, starts and finishes, assistance/check counts, sharing, ranking and friend-challenge actions, and a rough return/streak signal. The website strips private challenge tokens and URL fragments from analytics. These usage counts do not include your answers, email address or private return keys. Hosting and analytics providers also process network information needed to deliver their services.
Optional Rankings
When you choose to post a score, the service checks and discards the submitted board. It retains your unnamed time, checks, assistance penalties, posting time and a hash of a random per-puzzle private key. Scores do not automatically expire. Use Rankings → Remove my score before clearing browser data. We cannot recover a lost private key.
Friend Challenges and Sharing
Creating or joining a challenge stores a public puzzle, unnamed results and hashes of participant credentials. Anyone with the invitation can see that room’s results. Rooms expire seven days after creation. Participants can withdraw a score; the creator can revoke the invitation. These actions do not erase local progress. Sharing opens your device’s share tools or copies a link; you choose its recipient.
Website Advertising
Google AdSense may show one labeled, non-personalized ad below the controls after a newly solved puzzle. Availability depends on Google’s site approval, your privacy choices and advertising inventory. No ad is required to play, and an unavailable ad does not block the game. Ads do not appear during active play, on unranked replays or on revealed solutions. Apple app membership does not remove website ads; there are no website purchases.
Google and its advertising partners may use cookies, local storage, your IP address, approximate location and device/browser information to deliver, measure and protect ads. Non-personalized ads can still use cookies for frequency limits and reporting. Google’s scripts are loaded after an eligible completion or when you open ad privacy controls. Game analytics being cookie-free does not mean advertising is cookie-free.
Use Ad Privacy Choices in the game footer to review or withdraw applicable advertising consent. Where available, the footer also shows Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information. We do not request an ad while the applicable consent status is unknown, after a consent rejection or US opt-out, or when your browser sends Global Privacy Control. You can keep playing if you decline or block ads. Google may still receive ordinary network information when its consent controls load. For Google’s own account-level advertising preferences, visit My Ad Center.
Support and Privacy Requests
Email info@umbra-us.com for support or privacy questions. We receive the contact details and information you choose to send; support correspondence stays in our business email system, and you can request deletion. Do not send passwords, payment details or private saved-game files in ordinary feedback. Use the ranking/challenge removal controls above while you still have their private keys.
